Head Modelling: Part 1 - Preparation

Maya Scene

The Hero's Journey - Shrek

Ordinary World - Shrek lives in a swamp where he likes to be left alone. Many of the fairy tale creatures dislike, or are scared of Shrek. He pretends that this doesn't bother him but we all know that he feels extremely lonely and wants to be accepted by others.

Call to Adventure - Shrek's first call to adventure is when he comes across a wanted posted for "All Fairy tale Creatures."

Refusal of the call - However once Shrek reads the poster he immediately throws it away, not wanting anything to do with it.

Supernatural Aid - Shrek comes across a "talking Donkey" who later becomes his friend and even mentor throughout his journey.

Crossing the first threshold - Shrek makes his way to Lord Farquaad's Castle, so he can get rid off all the fairy tale creatures living in his swamp. Unfortunately Lord Farquaad demands that Shrek saves Princess Fiona from the tower guarded by a dragon. If he does this, he can finally have his swamp back.

Belly of the whale - This is when Shrek enters Lord Farquaard'd Castle and Town. This is a new world for Shrek and far different to his familiar swamp.

The Road of trials - Shrek faces many trials through out the whole film. One example would be when Robin Hood thinks Shrek has captured Princess Fiona. Shrek tries to fight Robin hood and his "Merry Men." However Fiona manages to defeat them all with her hidden fighting skills.

Meeting with the goddess - Princess Fiona would be the "godedess". Eventually becming Shrek's love interest.

Woman as Temptress - Shrek really cares and loves Fiona. He shows this by going out of his way to save her from getting married to Lord Farquaad.

Atonement with the Father - I am unsure of who the father figure is in the film but I think it could be Shrek. For example he helped Donkey cross the bridge leading to the castle surrounded by lava and he also saved donkey from the Dragon too.

Apothesis (God like) - The witch casts a spell on Princess Fiona. Making her a princess by day and an Ogre by night.

Ultimate Boon - Once Shrek defeated Lord Farqaaud and his knights, he is finally able to settle down with his true love, Princess Fiona.

Refusal of the Return - Once Fiona leaves Shrek to marry Lord Farquaad, he decides to give up and go back to his swamp. Wanting to be left alone by everyone.

Magic Flight - Shrek flies on the dragon with Donkey as they make there way back to Lord Farquaad's Castle in order to stop the wedding.

Rescue from without - Towards the end of the film, Donkey and The dragon come to save Shrek and Fiona from Lord Farquaad and his knights.

The crossing of the return Threshold - Shrek gains confidence after he realizes that Fiona has fallen in love with him. Using this knowledge, it gives him the strength to defeat Lord Farquaad and his knights.

Master of two worlds - Shrek learns to be the master of his own swamp and Lord Farquaad's own world.

Freedom to live - Shrek has the freedom to be with his true love, Fiona.
